The Parent Patent describes filter and/or absorber inserts for tobacco pipes and cigars and cigarette tips, contg. an absorbent binder from a silicic acid colloid. Novelty is that the filter insert is provided with lengthways running channels. The improved filter has less resistance to suction. The speed of the smoke is thus reduced and its impact on the tongue and throat reduced. The insert is wound on its long axis and has improved absorbent capacity whilst the smoke has more opportunity for cooling.
