The plant growing medium is freely and continually exposed to the air and possesses properties promoting capillary action so that water is conveyed to the whole medium. An unregulated source of water is connected to the growth medium. The growth medium is contained in a receptacle which has holes in mainly the sides for air to enter. Water is in contact with the underneath surface of the growth medium. The receptacle is placed inside a second container, with a gap between the sides of the two containers to form a humidity compartment, communicating with the water, air and growth medium. |
