In the precoating method, a resin component which contains a urea- and/or melamine-formaldehyde precondensate and polyvinyl acetate is used with a curing agent component of, for example, conventional composition. The use of homopolymeric and/or copolymeric polyvinyl acetate in the resin component in preferred amounts of from 10 to 30 percent by weight results in a considerable acceleration of the setting process compared with the conventional precoating method. However, this is not balanced by any adverse phenomena; indeed, it is even possible to avoid undesired flaking (splintering, peeling).
