The precast concrete ceiling panels have longitudinal reinforcing bars (3), transverse distribution bars, and vertically projecting bars (2) for suspension. During installation, continuous transverse bars (5) are laid across a number of adjacent panels, as are longitudinal bars (6) in the edge regions of the abutting panels. An in situ concrete layer is placed on top of the panels, enclosing the steel laid on the upper panel surfaces. The longitudinal bars (6) at the panel edges resist twisting moments.
