PURPOSE:To increase recording speed and enhance recording quality,by controlling thermal outputs of a first heat generating element group and a second heat generating element group in consideration of the quantity of heat accumulated in an ink sheet. CONSTITUTION:When recording data and control data are transferred from a host device 32 through a signal line S1 and preparation for recording is finished, it is discriminated whether the present recording cycle is an odd-numbered cycle or an even-numbered cycle. In the case of the odd-numbered cycle, a recording pattern for the odd-numbered cycle is set into a driver 34 through a signal line S2 to supply heat pulses to heat generating elements DA1-DA8. In the case of the even-numbered cycle, a recording pattern for the even- numbered cycle is set into the driver 34 to supply heat pulses to heat generating elements DB1-DB8, while setting, on the signal line S2, only the dots not printed in the preceding column, and a timer t2 is set ON. The length t2 of the heat pulses supplied to the heat generating elements DB1-DB8 is a driving time corresponding to a certain amount of heat already accumulated in a thermal transfer ribbon 16 through the previous heating in the vicinity of the heat generating elements DA1-DA8. |
