PURPOSE:To uniformize heat distribution and enhance thermal efficiency, by arranging a plurality of reaction pipes filled with a catalyst layer in such a connection relationship that a fuel gas flows from the center of a heating space to the outside or from the outside toward the center of the heating space. CONSTITUTION:A fuel gas is brought into a steam reforming reaction while passing through reaction pipes 8a, 8b, 8c. In this case, the fuel gas is contacted by a heating gas at a high temperature in the beginning period of the flow thereof, and is sequentially contacted by the heating gas of a gradually lower temperature. Therefore, the temperature distribution of the heating gas relative to the fuel gas becomes uniform according to the reaction therebetween, generation of side reactions are small, and thermal efficiency is enhanced. In addition, a multiplicity of sets of the reaction pipes 8a, 8b, 8c associated with connection are disposed symmetrically with respect to the center of a heating space 7, so that the same reaction with a uniform temperature distribution can be performed in all of the sets of the reaction pipes. |
