<p>Method and apparatus for the detection and purification of proteins and antibodies based upon the effect that any arbitrary protein will adsorb onto a substrate in a monomolecular layer only, but that a specific antibody (or antigen) for such arbitrary protein will bond thereto to from a bi-molecular protein layer on the substrate is disclosed. In practicing this invention, a first layer of protein is adsorbed onto a substrate and the coated substrate is then exposed to a solution suspected of containing the specific antibody(or antigen) of interest. The substrate is then examined to determine whether a monomolecular or bimolecular layer of protein is adhering thereon. Optical, electrical, And chemical means for examining the coated substrate are disclosed. Purification is provided by severing the immunological bond with weak acid.</p> |
