<p>A decoder for decoding control signals received by a central record/reproduce mechanism of a central dictation system, which control signals are of different levels to control different operating functions of the mechanism. The control signal is received by a plurality of threshold level detectors each of which is supplied with a different predetermined threshold level. Depending upon which threshold levels are exceeded by the control signal, respective energizing signals are produced by the associated threshold detectors and these energizing signals are supplied to corresponding sensors which produce output signals indicating the level of the control signal, Diode circuits supply the respective energizing signals from the threshold level detectors to the respective sensors. An inhibit circuit is connected between the output of a respective threshold level detector and the diode circuit which is connected to the threshold level detector associated with the next lower threshold level. The inhibit circuit biases the diode circuit in a manner to inhibit the sensor which is connected to the next lower threshold level detector so that when two adjacent threshold levels are exceeded by a control signal, only the sensor associated with the higher of these threshold levels produces an output signal; operation of the next lower sensor is inhibited.</p> |
