The safety mechanism for a vehicle seat belt is designed to prevent entanglement with the belt by persons entering or leaving the vehicle, while the belt is in the stowed position. The fixed end (15) of the belt (11) is attached to a bent strip (14) through which the hinge pin (13) passes, forming part of the anchorage. These act with a drive cam (16) mounted on the same pin (13), which has a peg (21) projecting sideways, so that when the cam rotates in a clockwise direction, the end of the belt is swung backwards and downwards to a horizontal rest position out of use. This cam has a cable (18) secured to it, which is attached also to a swinging arm (19) mounted on the side of the seat. This acts against a return spring (18) for the cam.
|
