Mitre clamp for assembling picture frames - has self-aligning block with padded surface to prevent damage to frame

A mitre clamp for holding the corners of picture frames together during assembly uses a special block to prevent damage to the frame. The block(1) has a flat face(15) covered with a layer of cork or felt(18) which is pressed against the side of the frame(2). The block (1) has a U-shaped slot with a groove around the curved part of the U shape. A disc(17) with a circumferential ridge fits in the U shaped slot. This disc(17) has a slot extending over most of its diameter which receives the transverse bar(6) which joins the two arms of the clamping levers(5). The disc(17) allows the block to align itself perfectly with the surface of the frame(2).
