<p>Cartridge cases are made with a tubular body of plastic material fitted with a base in which a metallic insert for reinforcing the extractor rim and the percussion well is enclosed and secured in situ by injection moulded thermoplastic sheathing. Internal flooding of the cartridge case during injection of the sheating is prevented by an ancillary prefabricated thermoplastic insert. Pref. the metallic insert features small openings and associated bent tabs which assist positioning and keying of the insert relative to the thermoplastic components. Produces cartridge cases of strong and stable form with a low incidience of jamming of cartridge ejector mechanism, sufficiently robust for re-use and immune to atmospheric corrosion or oxidation. The insert may be of steel, lighter and cheaper than brass.</p> |
