<p>The floating liquids storage facility consists of a storage and ballast unit inside a concrete pressure vessel in the form of three identical, symmetrically interlocking, spheres horizontally orientated, and a working platform on a central column. The ratio of sphere dia. to distance between sphere centres is approx. 1.4:1. Storage is at atmos. pressure in metal tanks lining flat bottomed, cylindrically walled compartments in the spheres, concentric with these and tangential to one another. The ratio between storage and ballast space is such that weight and buoyancy can be balanced, whatever the quantity stored, so the storage unit always remains submerged the working platform above water. System is used at mineral oil or mineral gas fields.</p> |
