The machine assembles sheets of paper etc. in identical sets and in the same order in each set, and incorporates a reception table for the incoming sheets and conveying them from the inlet to the outlet side, turning them over in the process. They are brought one by one opposite a set of pigeonholes successive sheets being delivered into different ones so as to make up a complete set in each. The turning mechanism can be followed by a distributor diverting the sheets to the particular holes. A means can also be included of reversing the direction of travel of the sheets, preferably between the turning and distribution units.
