The ashtray is esp. for use in motor vehicles. It has a housing which holds a movably guided ash tray. The latter is provided with a guide on its side walls. This consists of a spring plate with guide projections on both ends extending into guide grooves of housing. The guide elements are readily made and installed. An open slotted piece is formed on the side walls (2) of the tray. The latter accommodates a snap fit peg moulded integrally on the plate. This peg (12) has ratcheting projections at its free end engaging with the lower edge of the slot.
