Vehicle-sensitive seat belt blocking mechanism - has inertial mass mounted to react to vehicle movement in any direction

<p>An inertia mass-operated seat belt blocking mechanism reacts to sudden acceleration or deceleration not only in travel direction, but also in vertical direction. The relevant feature of the design is that the inertia mass is kept in the neutral position by a spring and the suspension of the mass is such that it can yield to impulses from any direction. The mechanism consists of pendulum(14) with arm(14a) and mass in form of disc(14b). The disc(14) rests in a nest-like enlargement of a spiral spring(15) which keeps the pendulum in its neutral position. The arm(14a) is cranked so that the centre of gravity(S) of the disc(14b) is positioned eccentrically to the rest of the arm. The other end of the arm(14a) is fitted with actuating disc(14c) the tilting movement of which lifts the swinging arm(17) pivoting around the fulcrum(16) inducing the blocking action with the ratchet wheel(6).</p>
