1338774 Glycol esters HALCON INTERNATIONAL Inc 19 April 1971 [3 March 1970] 22949/71 Heading C2C A method for increasing the yield of glycol ester from a process involving contacting an olefin and a molecular oxygen containing gas with a carboxylic acid in the liquid phase in an oxidation zone containing, as catalyst, at least one halogen source (defined) and at least one variable valent metal cation (defined) to obtain a liquid containing glycol ester, comprises separating from the said liquid (i) a residue having a higher boiling point than said glycol ester and/or (ii) a stream containing precursor light components (defined), and contacting said residue and/or said precursor light components with a carboxylic acid medium to produce additional glycol ester of said olefin. The liquid containing glycol ester is preferably continuously removed from the oxidation zone and any carboxylic acid contained in said liquid is preferably separated therefrom. |
