This invention relates to a method for the treatment or prevention of schizophrenia and/or psychosis using compounds of general formula I <IMAGE> in which: X represents oxygen or sulphur, each of R1 and R3 independently represents hydrogen or a C1-C4 alkyl group, Ar represents: a phenyl ring optionally substituted by one, two or three C1-C4 alkoxy groups and/or one or two halogen atoms, a phenyl ring of general formula <IMAGE> in which R2 represents halogen, 4,5-benzo, C1-C8 alkoxy, C1-C4 alkyl carbonyl or Am, where Am represents amine, methyl amine or dimethyl amine, R4 represents C1-C8 alkyl, n is 1 or 2, or a pyrimidinyl moiety of general formula <IMAGE> in which R5 is C1-C4 alkyl, and its N-oxides and pharmaceutically acceptable salts. A preferred compound is S-(-)-4-amino- N-(i-azobicyclo[2,2,2]oct-3-yl)-5-chloro-2-methoxy benzamide. The method in question is essentially characterized in that it is administered orally, subcutaneously, intravenously, intramuscularly or parenterally in a daily dose of between 0.2 μg and approximately 10 mg of the active ingredient, preferably from approximately 1 μg to 1.0 mg.
