Vinyl polymers prodn. in presence of poly-arylene-alkylenes - or their hydroperoxides, inhibiting thermo-oxidative degradation

The prodn. of vinyl polymers (I) by polymerisation of vinyl monomers (II) is carried out in the presence of 0.01-15 wt.% w.r.t. (II) of polyarylene-alkylenes (III) of the formula:- (in which Ar1 and Ar2 are:- m+n = 2-30; k=1 or 2, if k=1, Ar1 and Ar2 can also be X is H or 1-4C alkyl) or their hydroperoxides. Polymerisation pref. also takes place in the presence of 0.1-20 wt.% w.r.t. (II) of initiators, pref. Bz2O2, NC.CM32.N:N.CMe2.CN or i-Pr.C6H4.OOH. Used in the prodn. of polymethyl methacrylatE, polybutyl methacrylate with alpha, omega - methacryl-(bis-ethylene glycol) (Ila), which are used in the chemical and electrical industries, electronics, lighting, foodstuffs industry, in aircraft construction and for other industrial purposes. (III) inhibits thermo-oxidative degradation of (I).
