<p>1491728 Moulding plastic containers O RAKOVSKY 20 Dec 1974 [4 Feb 1974 31 May 1974] 55259/74 Heading B5A A tubular container with an end face and a tubular skirt depending therefrom (Fig. 3) is produced from a length of tubular thermoplastic material by sleeving the said length over a mandrel 12 with an end portion extending beyond an end of the mandrel and softening the end portion by heating without the end portion touching the source of heat; e.g. by one or more jets of hot air as shown in Figs. 2, 5 and 11. The heated end portion is inwardly constricted by applying a force thereto. This can be by creating a lower pressure within the end portion as is shown in Fig. 2 or by mechanical means of a wheel or folder as is shown in Figs. 5 and 11 respectively. A cap is then urged against the end face of the mandrel over the material of the heated and constricted end portion so as to mould the end face of the container between the cap and the end of the mandrel. Apparatus described in relation to Fig. 14 (not shown) and comprising a rotating turret of four mandrels which co-operate with a flaring tool and feed the sleeves on to the mandrels 12. may also be used.</p> |
