<p>The present invention provides a method for greatly reducing the amount of solids-containing waste streams produced during the recovery of acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile produced by the ammoxidation reaction of propylene or isobutylene with molecular oxygen and ammonia. <??>This is realized by recycling at least a part of the product column bottoms to the quench column. </p>
