<p>Triisoindolobenzene macrocycle of the formula (I) is prefd. by reacting phthalic dinitrile (II) with m-phenylenediamine in 3-3.5:1 molar ratio in satd. aliphatic 4-10C alcohol(s) (III) as solvent at 100-150, pref 115-125 degrees C in the presence of 0.2-2% (w.r.t. (II)) of a catalyst for formula MOR (in which M is an alkali metal; and R is H or 1-10C alkyl), followed by sepn. of the end prod. pptd. from the soln., pref. by filtering or centrifuging. The amt. of (III) added is pref. 3-8 times the amt. of (II). Prod. is used in the prodn. of pigments and dyes. The process is carried out in a single stage, uses simple appts. and relatively cheap starting materials, and gives high yields. The cost is low and the reproducibility excellent.</p> |
