1440954 Combating nematodes using hatching agents P P G INDUSTRIES INC 30 Nov 1973 [30 Nov 1972] 55620/73 Heading A5E A method of combating nematodes comprises: (a) establishing in soil containing nematode eggs an azide selected from alkali metal azide, alkaline earth metal azide, ammonium azide, and mixtures thereof in an amount effective to enhance hatching of nematode eggs and (b) establishing in the soil a nematocide in an amount effective to combat nematodes hatched from the nematode eggs. The nematocide may be 2, 3-dihydro-2, 2-dimethyl 7-benzofuranyl-N-methylcarbamate; 0-ethyl-S, S-dipropylphosphorodithioate; 0, 0 - diethyl - 0 - [p - (methylsulfiny])phenyl)]phosphorothioate; 1, 3- dichloropropene; mixtures of 1, 3-dichloropropene and trichloronitromethane; mixtures of 1, 3-dichloropropene, 3, 3-dichloropropene, 1, 2- dichloropropene, 2, 3-dichloropropene, and related C3 chlorinated hydrocarbons such as 1, 2-dibromo-3-chloropropane; and mixtures of methyl isocyanate and chlorinated C3 hydrocarbons; but other are listed. The invention also comprises formulations of the azide and the nematocide. In a modification the azide may be used as both the hatching agent and the nematocide. Other aspects disclosed are the covering of treated soil, the inclusion of an insecticide and, and the application of nematocide before, concurrently with, or after the azide. |
