1408958 Polymerization of vinyl chloride RHONE PROGIL 10 Jan 1973 [11 Jan 1972] 1274/73 Heading C3P In the two-stage bulk polymerization of vinyl chloride the first stage is effected with high turbulence to 5-15% conversion in the presence of 0À05-2% by wt. of acrylic or methacrylic acid or an alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl or substituted alkyl mono-ester thereof or an ethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol or polypropylene glycol dimethacrylate and the second stage is effected with low agitation. There may also be added to the second stage further monomer and/or a prepolymerizate obtained in the absence of the acrylic modifier. In examples are formed homopolymers or copolymers with vinyl acetate and/or propylene in the presence of tri- or tetraethylene glycol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol or tripropylene glycol, dimethacrylate acrylic acid, methyl methacrylate, methyl, ethyl or 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, glycidyl methacrylate or allyl acrylate. |
