A filter element comprises two layers of rods (1, 2). The layers are disposed with their rods (1, 2) in mutually crossing configuration. Web plates (5) project from one of the layers and define filtrate drainage channels (6). A filter (9) particularly for high temperatures employing one or more such filter elements and operating by underpressure is also within the scope of the invention.
