A parenteral liq. infusion set has a bottle with drip chamber connected to needle by tubing. There is an intermediate branch connection in the tubing. The tubing is designed according to Bernoulli's theory of laminar flow, to prevent a negative pressure from arising at the branch connection. To this end a portion of the tubing downstream of the branch connection, is of smaller bore than the rest of the tubing. The design covers the worst case when the head of liq. in the bottle is exhausted. Used for double set, for supply e.g., of normal saline or dextrose soln. from the bottle and drip feed of another soln. from a second bottle. The set may have an auxiliary branch for administering antibiotic.
|
