<p>Water-soluble acetylated glucopeptides are prepd. from lysed Escherichia coli cells. They have a molecular weight of 1000-200,000 contain >=25% biuretogenic material and >=30% neutral monosaccharides. They do not contain diaminopimelic acid and having a UV absorption maximum at 210 mu. Glucoproteins or molecular wt. >300,000 extracted from lysed E. coli cells are submitted to acetolysis, usually with a mixt. of acetic anhydride acetic acid and sulphuric acid. The crude acetylated prod. is treated with an organic solvent, such as chloroform, and the aq. phase undergoes diafiltration using a porous membrane which retains material of mol. wt. >=1000. The retained material is sepd.</p> |
