Compensating rudder for sailing craft - has trim tab coupled to rudder bar to pivot in opposite direction to reduce operating effort

The rudder is fitted to a sailing craft and is equipped with a trim tabe which compensates and reduces and operating effort on the rudder bar, by pivoting in the opposite direction. The tab (3) pivots (5) on the end of the rudder (1). The pivot shaft (2) for the rudder has a separate stub shaft (6) in its upper end, parallel to and connected with the trim tab shaft (4) by cables (7, 8, 9). The rudder bar (10) fits in the fork (11) of an arm (12) fixed to the rudder pivot shaft, its lost motion being adjusted by screws (13).
