Appts. increasing depth of field of microscope - oscillates barrel for insertion of rapidly changing optical elements of differing refractive indices

The amplitude of the oscillatory movement which is described by the microscope barrel corresponds to the required increase of the depth of field. Its frequency is adapted to the frequency conventional for cinema projectors so that the user, e.g. surgeon is unaware of change of optical elements. The latter of differing refractive indices, are subjected to oscillatory movement by a special drive. A rotating diaphragm may be installed in the beam path of the microscope. The drive of the diaphragm is synchronised with the oscillatory drive. The amplitude of oscillation, the amount of increase in the depth of focus and the oscillatory frequency may all be adjustable.
