The system delivers electrical energy to an electrical unit implanted in a living organism, and is partic. for charging an implanted secondary cell. A current is induced in a coil implanted beneath the skin (15) and connected to the electrical unit (1). This coil functions as the secondary (2) of a transformer. An a.c. current is passed through the primary (3) of the same transformer (7) above the skin. The coils can each be wound onto half a core (4, 5) of ferromagnetic material. The half-cores can each be secured to a pressure plate of relatively large area and non-magnetic material, shaped to suit the body.
