The air inlet pipe (13) to the suction hood (1) is mounted tangentially in one direction whilst the suction pipe (12) is mounted tangentially in the other direction to produce an axial air vortex inside the hood. The cylindrical suction hood can be placed on the axial stump (10) of a brake unit (11) to be cleaned by means of a sleeve (6) which is axially mounted in the centre of the hood and can be displaced by axial force. Centering of the hood thus takes place automatically whereupon the hood is then moved back so that the unit to be cleaned sealingly adjoins from the inside the sealing lamellae (4) which are centrally mounted round the front opening of the hood. The compressed air used for cleaning together with the dust is drawn off through the outlet pipe with the air cyclone. The suction hood can be fitted onto a mobile chassis which provides the link with the vacuum cleaner.
