Gel products which are suitable for local use on the skin or the hair contain as gel-forming components a non-irritant anionic surface-active agent, a non-ionic surface-active agent and a polar solvent, for example water. The products can also contain a therapeutically active constituent, for example an agent for treating parasite infestation of the skin. The ratio of anionic surface-active agent to non-ionic surface-active agent is preferably between about 1:3 and 3:1 and the amount of surface-active agents is preferably 20 to 60% by weight of the complete gel product.
