Echo-sounder oscillator mounting in GRP boat hull - uses hemispherical shell enclosure with mounting bolt hole cut to give vertical orientation

The scheme for installing an echo sounder oscillator inside a GRP or wooden boat hull employs a substantially hemispherical shell(1) made of synthetic material, with a flange (3) for fixing and sealing to the hull, to carry the oscillator(6). This is located with its beam axis(9) vertical with the boat in normal attitude by cutting a hole in the shell at an appropriate angle, through which the oscillator mounting bolt(8) passes. The installed shell is filled with sound transmitting liquid - e.g. oil - through a sealable opening(5). In wooden hulls, the oscillator is set with its face(7) over, partially in, a hole cut in the hull. The hole is filled with, oscillator face embedded in, sealant.
