The electric railway locomotive, esp. with bogie mountings and hydrodynamic power transmission, has a drive assembly for each bogie mounting, comprising electric motor with gear unit, mounted in the vehicle body with axis along the line of travel. The two drive assemblies(20, 21) are set close together in the lower central area of the vehicle. The transformer(16) and electric control units(17, 18, 19) are also in the central area, above the drive assemblies. The driving axles(30) for the bogie mountings may be linked to each other by a spur gear system(33), preceded by bevel gearing(34). This enables length to be reduced although the drive assemblies are housed in the vehicle body.
