Thermal treatment of fine particle materials involves a preheat zone, a calcining zone and a firing or sintering zone. The heating of the material in the preheat zone is obtd. by contacting it with the exhaust gases from the fired zones. The calcining zone has additional fuel added to it. The calcining is carried out on an inclined rotating table and at least part of the additional fuel requirement is mixed into the material. The preheating is pref. effected in a cyclone mixer using the exhaust gases from the calcining zone. The outlet gases from the cooler and the sintering zone can be injected into the calcining zone. The gases from the sinter zone can also by-pass the calcining and preheat zones, and be fed to the calcining zone cooler outlet air. Used esp. for sintering of cement crude meal. The residence time of material in the process can be widely varied for different throughputs and in all cases a very uniform treatment of all the particles in the calcining zone guaranteed.
|
