wherein X is fluoro and X' is bromo or chloro or both X and X' are chloro.

The compounds are prepared by deuteration of the corresponding undeuterated ethers with D₂0 in the presence of a strong base.

They are useful as anesthetics and have a lower toxicity than the undeuterated analogues.
