The appts. to remove clinging waste from the mantle surface of a cylinder which moves upwards as the cylinder rotates, such as the drying cylinder of a papermaking machine, has at least one row of blower openings at the scraper body, over the whole width of the paper web. Their blowing direction is aligned at least mostly to the scraper blade. A unit between the upwards-moving section of the cylinder mantle and the facing papermaking machine roller carries detached waste generally along the cylinder axis.
