Deck hatch opening mechanism - has first panel with divisible hinges and movable parallel to hatch edges

The mechanism opens and shuts a loading hatch (25) in a ship's deck. Panels (1, 2) bearing against each other to form a sealed joint in the shut position hinge together in a harmonica pattern on the pin (24) of a first hinge (15). The other end of the first panel hinges open on a second pin (17) parallel to the first and at the hatch end and in a second hinge. On the lengthwise edges (5) of the hatch, running at right angles to the pins, are lifting devices (6), engaging with coupling points (13) at the sides of the first panel. The first and second hinges are divisible. With the hatch shut, a first section (12) of the second hinge is positioned on the edges clear of the second one (8). The latter has a stop limiting movement of the first section parallel to the hatch sides and away from the hatch itself. The lifting devices (29) have components engaging with the coupling points so as to move the first panel parallel to the edges.
