A superconductive polycrystalline body is produced having a composition selected from the group consisting of Y1-x(Ln)xBa2Cu3O7-y, La1-x(Ln)xBa2Cu3O7-y and a combination thereof wherein x ranges from about .01 to about 0.2, y ranges up to about 0.3, and where Ln is selected from the group consisting of Nd, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb and a combination thereof. A composition having the above constitution is made from appropriate oxides or precursors thereof and comminuted to produce a sinterable powder to which a magnetizing field is then applied. The resulting aligned powder is formed into a compact and sintered and cooled in an oxidising atmosphere to produce the superconductive body, the open porosity and grain or plate size of which have specified values. |
