TV CRT with sealed front plate - has dark sealing surface between highly transparent front plate and funnel shaped tube bulb

The television cathode-ray tube consists of a funnel-shaped bulb to which is sealed a front plate (3) of highly transparent glass. The connecting surface between the front plate and the funnel (1) is dark. This is attained by using a dark adhesive layer (6) between the front plate and the funnel. It is possible to use an adhesive which darkens under the temperature necessary for attaining a reliable seal. Alternately the edge surface of the front plate covered by adhesive layer may be dark. The arrangement removes interfacing optical side effects.
