In order that the brightness, in the case of a process camera having an exposure plane which is not directly accessible, can be measured, the sensor surface of the brightness-measuring element (4) is arranged at a point, on the exposure plane (1), which can be freely selected but is the same for all measurements. The invention provides means (20) for displacing the original-image plane (5), which may undergo incident illumination or transmitted illumination, within its plane in order to project onto the brightness-measuring element (4) that area of the original image (5') which is to be measured. In order to mark the measurement area on the original, the invention provides a marking light source (3), the beam of which can be fed into the path (6) leading from the measuring element to the measurement area. <IMAGE>
