The welding gun includes an anode unit to which is attached a cathode unit having a sealed housing which is filled with a liquid dielectric and provided with an internal cooler. Within the housing is a cathode assembly comprising a high voltage tubular insulator upon which are mounted sealed curent leads, at least part of the external surface of the insulator forming part of the internal surface of the liquid-filled cavity. Pref. the cooler is either a cylindrical tubular coil surrounding the insulator or a flat tubular coil above the latter. The construction provides a strong compact unit having good beam parameter stability over long service with good high reliability. There is complete absence of any means of adjustment.
