The tool-box(2) contains two symmetrical sets(3, 4) of two superimposed trays(5a, 5b and 6a, 6b) when closed, and the trays can be moved into laterally offset positions when the box is open. The trays are coupled by a system of pin-jointed link rods(9, 10, 11, 16) whereby they move simultaneously into the offset positions. The rods and the tray sides form a series of folding parallelograms, and a lever system couples the two sets. The lever system may comprise a rocking lever(9), a tie bar(16), and a pivoting bar(9A). The rocking lever(9) is pinned to the box(2) at an intermediate point, and its ends are pinned to a lower tray(5b) and the tie(16) respectively.
