Appts. for charging bitumen melters incorporated two shutters articulated so as to close or open the charging hole of a hood capping the melter. The shutters are connected together so that when one is open the other is shut. There is a space between them for a cake of bitumen. Device can be adapted to any type of bitumen melter. It ensures safety of operators from splashes and prevents any extension of a fire.
