Electrostatic precipitator with parallel electrodes - and intermediate wire electrode, has upstream transverse grounded filter

Electrostatic precipitator comprising a pair of parallel, grounded electrodes having a wire electrode disposed therebetween connected to a source of D.C. voltage. A grounded perforate metal filter arranged transversely at the gas inlet end of the precipitator perpendicular to the grounded electrodes. The wire electrode is arranged so that the ratio of the distance from the filter is not less than the distance from the grounded electrodes and is not >1.5 times that distance. Dust collection is enhanced without the use of an increased voltage on the wire electrode.
