The rectifying shell-bearing is for use in the in situ rectification of scored rotor-spindles of turbo-alternators. The rectifying shell has a horizontal axis and is mounted in the place of the original bearing shells. The rectifying shell has proud half-rings(14, 15) at each end and serving to support the rotor on circumferences which delineate the spindle. Oil-feed holes(21) open out onto the rings(14, 15) and communicate with a source of oil at high pressure. The oil is used to lift and free the rotor in preparation for rotation. Clamps(17) bolted to the bearer(4) hold the shell in place and may have stub-axles(18) which allow the shell to pivot during rectification.
|
