PURPOSE:To obtain a thin film having an excellent optical characteristic by introducing a monomolecular org. dyestuff compd. into a multilayer bimolecular thin film of an amphiphilic substance enhanced in bimolecular film formability by utilizing ion-exchange reactivity. CONSTITUTION:A soln. of an amphiphilic substance capable of forming a bimolecular film is developed on a substrate, the solvent is gradually removed from the formed liq. film, and a multilayer bimolecular thin film is formed. The thin film is catalytically treated with an ionic org. dyestuff compd. The org. dyestuff compd. is introduced into the multilayer bimolecular thin film by ion-exchange reaction, dispersed as a monomolecular film and immobilized. Consequently, the compd. is not polymerized but dispersed as a monomolecular film and immobilized. Accordingly, the obtained thin film exhibits an excellent optical characteristic and is widely used as an oscillating material, light-emitting material, optical recording material, display material, optical waveguide material, etc., as the optical functional thin film.
