Fail safe warning for car steering wheel - uses grip detector linked to warning buzzer operating when wheel is released

The rear of the steering wheel rim is fitted with a conducting strip (3) which is exposed in the grooves forming the finger grips at the rear of the wheel. It is connected to an alarm circuit which operates when the driver fails to grip on the steering wheel with both hands e.g. when he dozes. The warning circuit is earthed via the strip and incorporates an oscillator to operate a warning buzzer. The system is linked to the ignition and provides a clear warning when the driver is too tired to grip the wheel properly.
