The peripheral metal band (2) supports the handle (3) and fits round the glass or ceramic vessel such as a coffee pot. End pieces (5, 6) are bent radially down from the vessel (1) and project into a recess (7) in the handle (3). The handle (3) itself has a screw (9) which runs at a tangent to the vessel. Its head (10) is supported on the handle and it is screwed into a threaded part (12) which can move axially but not rotate in the handle (3) and rests on an end piece (6) of the band. One end piece is thus supported on the adjoining wall of the recess whilst the other end piece is moved up to the first end piece when the screw is tightened so that the metal band is braced as a whole round the vessel so that the handle is tightly fixed.
