All structural components of electron- or ion-optical assemblies which can have an effect on the path of electrons or ions are made of vitreous carbon. Vitreous carbon has a low sec. electron emission coefft. and low electron and ion scattering factors. No surface charges can occur and it is suitable for >=2000 degrees C.
