Household rotary ironing machine has a rotatable ironing roller which is indexed by a motor driven bell crank which for the purpose of oscillating the corresp. curved platen is connected to the bell crank supporting the platen by means of a shaft which form a toggle lever assembly. Repeated indexing of the roller by the bell crank causes lifting off and pressing of the platen. - In case of power failure the platen is pressed towards the roller under gravity. The latter facility dispenses with an emergency switch arrangement as the assembly is of the "fail-safe" kind.
